Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

#6 Men's Hockey Derails Wilkes

UTICA, NY - The #6 Utica University men's ice hockey team won a fifth straight game on Friday. The Pioneers scored the first four goals of the game and never looked back as they rolled by visiting Wilkes University by a 6-2 score in United Collegiate Hockey Conference action at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The Pioneers improve to 6-2-0 overall, and a 5-0 conference record. They have thirteen out of a possible fifteen standings points and sit just a single point off the conference lead. Wilkes falls to 2-4-1 overall, and 1-3-0 in conference play.

Brandon Osmundson (Virginia Beach, VA/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)) logged his 100th career point with an assist on a third period goal. He becomes just the fifth player in program history to achieve that milestone exclusively at Utica.

Connor Fedorek (Bethel Park, PA/Ferris State University (NCAA DI)) led the Utica offense with three assists. Jaxon Rutkowski (Rome, NY/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)) and Kimball Johnson (Coppell, TX/University of St. Thomas (NCAA DI)) logged a pair of assists of their own on a solid night moving the puck for the Utica blue line.

Mic Curran (Arlington, MA/Curry College (CCC)) led Utica forwards with a goal and an assist. Jakob Breault (Acton Vale, QC/Alaska-Fairbanks (NCAA DI)), John Moncovich (Wilmington, NC/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)), Remy Parker (Montclair, NJ/University of Maine (NCAA DI)), Shane Murphy (Oriskany, NY/Danbury Hat Tricks (NAHL)), and Lucas Herrmann (Elma, NY/University of New Hampshire (NCAA DI)) also had a goal apiece.

Bryan Landsberger (Montreal, Quebec/Nepean Raiders (CCHL)) stopped 18 of 20 to earn the win.

Billy Berry and Cam Lowe had goals for Wilkes. Michael Patterson-Jones turned aside 34 shots in the loss.

As with many of their recent victories, a string of goals set the tone for the Pioneers to win wire-to-wire. They opened on a four goal run, with Mic Curran (Arlington, MA/Curry College (CCC)) and Remy Parker (Montclair, NJ/University of Maine (NCAA DI)) netting goals in the first period, and newcomers Jakob Breault (Acton Vale, QC/Alaska-Fairbanks (NCAA DI)) and Lucas Herrmann (Elma, NY/University of New Hampshire (NCAA DI)) in the second period.

Berry broke up the shutout with an unassisted goal at 6:24 of the second period. Shane Murphy (Oriskany, NY/Danbury Hat Tricks (NAHL)) responded at 11:05 with his second career goal, and second in as many games for a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Osmundson nabbed his 100th career point to open the third on a deflection goal scored by longtime teammate John Moncovich (Wilmington, NC/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)). With a 6-1 Pioneer lead in hand, Cam Lowe scored in the final five minutes to finalize a 6-2 score.

The two teams meet again at 2 p.m. Sunday.
