ALFRED, NY - The Utica University women's basketball team fell on the road in its regular season finale to Alfred University 66-56 on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers dominated the first 30 minutes of play thanks to an efficient 47.6 shooting percentage over the first three quarters which led to 54 points. The Utica defense also limited Alfred to 30.5 percent shooting from the field through three quarters.
Utica held a strong 54-44 lead entering the fourth quarter. However, strong Alfred Saxons defense held the Pioneers to two points over the final 10 minutes while putting up 22 points on a decent 44 percent shooting over the final 10 minutes of play.
In the game, the Pioneers shot 3-for-21 from beyond the arc and allowed 19 points off of turnovers.
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) led Utica with 14 points and finished second on the team with eight rebounds and a pair of blocks. Off the bench,
Krissy Geraci (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) netted 12 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor.
Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) also added 11 points for the Pioneers.
Utica (19-6, 10-6 Empire 8) will host Russell Sage College in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament opening round on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
