Hartwick Pulls Away from Women's Basketball

ONEONTA, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team fell to host Hartwick College 89-70 in Empire 8 Conference play Tuesday evening. 
 
With the loss, the Pioneers have their winning streak snapped at six games.  UC moves to 18-3 on the year ad 9-3 in the E8.  Utica will return home this weekend for a pair of games this weekend begging with a contest against Nazareth college on Friday.  Game time is 5:30 p.m.
 
Utica and Hartwick remained close through the first quarter as the score was tied 18-18 after the first 10 minutes of play.  Hartwick began to pull away towards the end of the second quarter, going on a 19-1 run in the final 3:22 before halftime. 
 
Hartwick picked up where it left off in the second half as the Hawks stretched their lead to 74-51 after three quarters.  Utica outscored the host team by four points in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late as Hartwick picked up its seventh conference win of the year.
 
Sophomore Krissy Geraci (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) led Utica with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) and Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) netted 11 points ad 10 points, respectively.  Sophomore Hope Halvarson (Cranston, RI/Cranston East) had a breakout game as she finished with a career-high 12 points in 17 minutes off the bench. 
 
Kristine Miller (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) had eight points and six rebounds, while Hannah Stack (Dogleville, NY/Dolgeville) added seven points and Julia Rotando (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) netted five points.  Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) also had a basketball for the Pioneers.
 
Hartwick had four players finish with over 10 points, led by sisters Maggie ad Molly Kirby, who combined for 39 points for the Hawks.
