Women's Lacrosse Looks to Keep Momentum Going Against RPI

UTICA, NY- The Utica University women's lacrosse team will look to extend its four-game winning streak at home this Saturday as the Pioneers take on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

Last Time Out: In Utica's first game back from spring break, the Pioneers jumped out to a 13-0 lead and eventually took down the Morrisville State Mustangs 14-4. Senior Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had her fourth straight game with at least three goals, while Senior Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) also had a hat trick of her own. Junior Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led all Pioneers with six points (three goals, three assists), while sophomore Alyssa Drell (Mastic, NY/William Floyd) put two in the back of the net and sophomore Alyssa Pisano (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington), senior Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and junior Daniela Muscari (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) each had one goal. In goal, senior Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) recorded two saves on eight shots while sophomore Shaylynn Palmer (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) made two saves as well.

Points Please: Senior Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) is on a roll that has not been seen by a Utica women's lacrosse player in quite some time. With a three-goal effort on Wednesday, Scaccia has now pushed her point streak, which dates back to March 12, 2019, to 37 games. Scaccia currently has 14 goals in just four games this season, while also scoring at least one goal in 22 of her last 23 games played. Scaccia recently scored her 100th career goal and currently sits eighth in the program record books with 104 goals to her credit.  She is also eighth in career points (148), one shy of Katlyn Banker '12 and two shy of tying former teammate Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) for sixth all-time.

A Little Bit of Everything: Junior Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) has been impressive this season, tallying three straight three-goal games and recording 14 points (nine goals, five assists) in the process.
DeCondo leads the team with two game-winning goals, she is second in assists (five), and third in caused turnovers (five).

A Helping Hand: Senior Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) is one of three Pioneers this season to be tied for the team lead with 14 points (Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro)). Rossi currently has seven goals and a team-leading seven assists.  She has already matched her career-high for points in a season (14). In addition to her offensive skills, Rossi has six ground balls and five caused turnovers, both of which place her in the top five on the team.

In Claire We Trust: Senior goaltender Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) is having an outstanding start to her senior campaign. Frier is currently 4-0 on the season, totaling 30 saves, and is currently second in the Empire 8 in goals against average (7.87), third in save percentage (.536) and fourth in saves per game (7.50). Along with her counterpart Shaylynn Palmer (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse Minoa), the duo leads the Empire 8 in combined goals against average (8.20).

Scouting RPI: The Engineers are currently 4-2 on the season, and they are coming off a 15-13 win over Union College on Wednesday. RPI is led by junior Megan Shay (22 goals, four assists), freshman Ella Graff (15 goals, one assist) and junior Rylie Marready (11 goals, five assists). This will mark the first matchup in women's lacrosse history between Utica University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Looking Ahead: Utica will be back at home to end its three-game homestand on Wednesday, March 30 against SUNY Canton. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
