UTICA, NY- The Utica University men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Alfred University 15-7 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored their eight seniors who are wrapping up their careers at Utica.

Alfred jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter and tacked on another tally in the second before Utica was able to get on the scoreboard thanks to back-to-back goals by
Gage Fiacco (Massena, NY/Massena) and
John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon).Â

The Saxons outscored Utica 5-4 in the second quarter to take a 7-4 lead into halftime. Alfred pulled away with five unanswered goals in the third quarter and added three more tallies in the fourth to come away with the win.

Seniors
John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) and
Gage Fiacco (Massena, NY/Massena) led the way with two goals apiece, with Avery also adding an assist. Sophomore
Caiden Frey (Accord, NY/Roundout Valley) also netted two goals for the Pioneers. Classmate
John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) also found the back of the net once.Â

The goalies put on a show as each starter finished with 17 saves to his credit. The marks the tenth time this year Pioneer goalie
Jon Goodspeed (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) has recorded at least ten saves in a game.

The Pioneers (6-7, 2-2 Empire 8) face a pivotal game on Tuesday as they travel to Hartwick College. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
