TROY, NY- The Utica University softball team dropped both games of its non-conference doubleheader as it fell to host RPI 8-2 and 10-4 on Tuesday.
Utica 2, RPI 8- Game One Final
The Engineers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings, but RBIs from
Emily Joss (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) and
Alyssa Barbato (Rhinebeck, NY/Rhinebeck ) brought Utica back within three runs in the third inning. RPI however scored three runs in the fifth to put the game away.

Julia Phelps (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa High School), and
Abriana Wadley (Utica, NY/Proctor) had hits for Utica in Game one. Meanwhile freshman
Kylie Murray (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester ) totaled two strikeouts in the loss. Her counterpart, Alexis Cooke, fanned 13 in the win.
Utica 4, RPI 10- Game Two Final
Utica jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but RPI responded in the bottom half of the inning with five runs of its own. The teams traded a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth before the Engineers tacked on three in the sixth to come away with the win.
Emily Joss (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) was 2-for-2, while
Abriana Wadley (Utica, NY/Proctor) was 2-for-3 in the loss.
Julia Phelps (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa High School),
Abigail Sacks (Colonie, NY/Colonie),
Kylie Murray (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester ), and
Lauren Paul (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) each had one hit for the Pioneers.
Jordyn Conte (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley High School) shouldered the loss, while
Lucia Gargiulo (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa ) fanned three in 2.2 innings of work. Meanwhile RPI's Brooke Sroczinsk struck out in the win.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they host Keuka College. Game time is 1 p.m.
