Women's Lax Downs Hawks

UTICA, NY- The Utica University women's lacrosse team picked up its first conference win of the season Wednesday as it downed visiting Hartwick College 15-6 in Empire 8 action. Senior Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led all players with six points on the day.  
 
The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first three minutes of play and never looked back.  Utica led 4-1 after the first quarter and 8-4 at halftime.  The Pioneers outscored the Hawks 7-2 over the final 30 minutes to come away with their sixth win of the season.
 
Scaccia led the way with three goals and three assists while Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had three goals and two helpers.  Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) and Katie Crofoot (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) each netted two goals, while Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), Alyssa Drell (Mastic, NY/William Floyd), Morgan Madore (Higganum, CT/Haddam-Killingworth), Daniela Muscari (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook), and Tracy Moreno (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) each found the back of the net one time. 
 
Devin Ryan (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) and Grace Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro ) aided the offense with one assist apiece.  Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) totaled four draw controls to move her career total to 203, becoming just the third player in program history to record over 200 draw controls.  DeCondo meanwhile led the squad with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
 
Senior Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) made 10 saves in the win, while her counterpart, Samantha Miller, finished with 12 saves. 
 
The Pioneers (6-2, 1-1 E) will have a week off before returning home next Wednesday to host Russell Sage.  Game time is 7 p.m.
