Pioneers Power Past Wolves in Men's Lax Action

UTICA, NY- The Utica University men's lacrosse team picked up its second straight Empire 8 Conference victory Saturday as it downed visiting Keuka College 10-4.
 
Utica jumped out to an early lead as senior Gage Fiacco (Massena, NY/Massena) scored just 1:13 into the contest.  The Pioneers tacked on three more scores in the first quarter before Keuka was able to get on the board.  Each team added one more before the buzzer as Utica carried a 5-2 lead into the second stanza.  Utica and Keuka traded one goal apiece in the second quarter as the Pioneers led 6-3 at halftime
 
The Pioneers kept up the pressure in the second half as they netted two goals in each quarter and allowed just one score against to come away with the win.
 
Underclassmen led the way as they accounted for six goals and two assists in the win.  Sophomore Caiden Frey (Accord, NY/Roundout Valley) and freshman Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park ) each had two goals and an assist to pace the Pioneers.  Sophomores Chase Kaufman (Atlanta, GA/Riverside Military Academy) and Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) each found the back of the net once. 
 
Fiacco finished with two goals, while classmates James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) and John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) each had one goal and Ryan Washo (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) chipped in with an assist. 
 
Sophomore Jon Goodspeed (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) made 12 saves in the win, while Dylan Hoad totaled nine saves for the Wolves. 
 
Utica (6-4, 2-0 Empire 8) looks to keep its momentum going on Wednesday at the Pioneers host the University of Scranton.  Game time is 4 p.m.
