Women Soccer Falls on the Road to RPI

TROY, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team fell 2-1 on the road to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers in non-conference play on Tuesday evening.

RPI controlled much of the offensive pace through the first half as the home team out-shot Utica 9-3 throughout the first 45 minutes. The Engineers capitalized on their second shot of the night, which came in the 12th minute, for a 1-0 advantage.

Still 1-0 RPI in the 31st minute, Jenna Keeman (Douglas, MA/Douglas) substituted into the game for the Pioneers looking to create on a free kick. Keeman launched the free kick from 40 yards out that skipped once to the goalkeeper, who had it bound off her knees and find its way into the goal to even the contest. It was Keeman's second career goal and the first for the defender since her first season in 2019.

However, RPI responded just over 30 seconds later on its first attempt following Keeman's game-tying tally. The 32nd minute score by the Engineers served to be the game-winner as both sides stayed scoreless throughout the remainder of the game.

Utica and RPI attempted four shots in the second half while the Engineers finished with a 13-7 advantage as well as 5-3 on goal. Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) led the Pioneers with three shots while Keeman attempted a pair. In goal, Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) recorded three saves.

Utica (2-5-1, 1-0 Empire 8) will remain on the road to take on Alfred University at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
