Field Hockey Concludes Road Trip With Loss to Oswego

OSWEGO, NY - The Utica University field hockey team fell to the Oswego State Lakers 4-1 in the team's last of five-straight road games on Wednesday evening.

The sides were even in shots at three each through the first quarter however, Oswego found the back of the cage with 23 ticks remaining before the second quarter to jump out ahead. While the Lakers dominated the shot total in the second (6-1), Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) capitalized on Utica's lone attempt just under four minutes into the new frame to even the score at one.

With the score at 1-1 entering halftime, a strong second half by Oswego proved to be the difference. Kaitlyn Jordan of the Lakers scored the first two Oswego goals in the third before teammate Kacie Simzer put the finishing touches on with nine seconds left in the period. The Pioneers were limited to one shot in the fourth as the team could not mount a comeback in the 4-1 loss.

Mix and Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) attempted two shots each, accounting for four of Utica's six on the night. In goal, Lyla Cushman (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) recorded five saves for the Pioneers.

Utica (2-5, 1-1 Empire 8) will return home for the first time in nearly three weeks when the team hosts Elmira College at 5:30 p.m. from Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
