SCHENECTADY, NY - In what was a scoreless battle for the first 88 minutes of the game, a goal in the 89th minute by Union College sent the Utica University women's soccer team home with a 1-0 loss. 
 
Union put the pressure on Utica throughout the first half with six shots, three of which on goal, to one by the Pioneers. While the Dutchwomen continued pressure in the second half, Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) kept the game scoreless with seven saves in goal for Utica. 
 
However, Union broke through at the 88:07 mark on its 12th shot of the half when Amanda Sgueglia converted for the game winning goal. 
 
Overall, the Pioneers were outshot by the Dutchwomen 19-3 including 12-0 on goal. Jenna Keeman (Douglas, MA/Douglas), Ro Hernandez (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic) and Gabriela Daumont (Latham, NY/Shaker) each attempted a shot while Connolly recorded 11 saves in net. 
 
Utica (1-1, 0-0 Empire 8) returns to action on September 9 in the Blue Devil Clarion Classic at Fredonia. Utica and Fredonia will meet at 3:30 p.m. on September 9 before taking on Oswego State at 12:30 p.m. on September 10 in a neutral site meeting.
