UTICA, NY - The No. 2 Utica University men's hockey team returned home for the first time in over a month and celebrated with a 5-0 shutout win over the visiting Neumann University Knights on Friday evening.
Mic Curran (Arlington, MA/Curry College (CCC)) had four points on the night with two goals and a pair of assists.
Remy Parker (Montclair, NJ/University of Maine (NCAA DI)),
John Moncovich (Wilmington, NC/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)) and
Kimball Johnson (Coppell, TX/University of St. Thomas (NCAA DI)) each had one goal as well.
Connor Fedorek (Bethel Park, PA/Ferris State University (NCAA DI)),
Justin Allen (Hilton, NY/Rochester Monarchs (NCDC)) and
Lucas Herrmann (Elma, NY/University of New Hampshire (NCAA DI)) had two assists each while
Jayson Dobay (Weymouth, MA/Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)) and
Buster Larsson (Malmo, Sweden/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) recorded one apiece.
In goal,
Bryan Landsberger (Montreal, Quebec/Nepean Raiders (CCHL)) recorded his third shutout this season, all coming over the last four games, as he stopped all 15 shots that came his way.
As a unit, Utica got off a whopping 51 shots, 23 of which coming in the second period.
After 11 shots over the first 13 minutes of play,
Mic Curran (Arlington, MA/Curry College (CCC)) was able to put Utica ahead with a goal coming off
Jayson Dobay (Weymouth, MA/Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)) and
Connor Fedorek (Bethel Park, PA/Ferris State University (NCAA DI)) assists. The Pioneers went on to take its 1-0 lead into the intermission after limiting the Knights to just two shots over the first 20 minutes.
The team really found its stride in the second period with a total 23 shots to Neumann's seven. Just 29 seconds into the period, Parker found the back of the net while Moncovich did the same a while later at the 17:21 mark. Curran and Johnson put the icing on the cake in the third period with a goal each to top off Utica's shutout victory.
No. 2 Utica (11-2-1, 9-0-0 UCHC) and Neumann will meet again on Saturday night for Parkway Drugs Night. Puck drop from the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium is set for 7 p.m.
