UTICA, NY - The Utica University track and field program hosted the Utica Winter Opener on Saturday afternoon. The men placed third with 77 points while the woman came in fourth with 75 points. The top highlights from the day were Antwan Kelly setting another school record and
Laura Meade's (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) trifecta of wins.

Antwan Kelly won the men's weight throw with his school record throw of 17.55 meters. Kelly continued his strong start to the season, and this is his second record set in the new campaign.

Laura Meade (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) won the women's 60m with a time of 8.08, just one second ahead of second place. She also captured first in the women's triple jump with a score of 10.87. Meade was also a part of the winning women's 4x200 team. The team clocked in at 1:51.06 and also featured
Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden),
Janaiya Cruz-Bermudez (East Hartford, CT/East Hartford), and
Ayjah Clarke (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove).

Cruz-Bermudez also ran well in the women's 500m as she placed third clocking in at 1:23.12 Mix placed second in the women's 200m coming in at 26.40 and was just .17 behind the winner.Â

Andrew Hadasz placed fourth in the men's 200m clocking in at 22.94. The men's 4x400 team came in fourth with a time of 3:36.84. The team featured Nolan Flynn, Zuriel Wright, Hayden Lohmann, and Jonathan Simmons. The men's 4x200 team came in third place with a time of 1:36.74 and featured Dylan Asch, Ethan Kain, Michael Orioles, and Quallan Brown.

The Pioneers had success in the women's weight throw as
Gabrielle DeSanctis (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) placed third and
Emilia Costello (Central Square, NY/Central Square) came in fourth. DeSanctis' best throw was 14.31 meters while Costello's was 14.23 meters.Â

Jane Fahy (Oriskany, NY/MVCC/Oriskany) came in third place in the women's shot put and her best throw was 11.98 meters.
Amina Sinclair (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) placed third in the women's high jump with a score of 1.52.Â

Zuriel Wright continued his strong start to the season and placed fourth in the men's long jump with his best score coming at 6.61 meters. Utica dominated the men's shot put and had three top-five finishers. Hunter Logan came in third and recorded 15.05 meters in his best attempt. Billie Mays III placed fourth with his top attempt reaching 13.38 meters. Justin Swavely came in fifth and his best throw was 13.25 meters.Â

Zuriel Wright and Blake Hobin stole the show in the men's high jump capturing the top two spots. Wright captured first scoring 1.91 while Hobin placed second and scored 1.86.

The teams will travel to Clinton, NY for the Hamilton Continental Indoor Invitational on Friday, January 20 beginning at 3 p.m.
