No. 13 Women's Hockey Cruises to Shutout Win at Neumann

UTICA, NY- The number 13 ranked Utica University women's hockey team was absolutely dominant this afternoon against Neumann University with a decisive 13-0 win over the Knights.

Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) led the way for the Pioneers with five points including four assists and a goal of her own while 15 different Pioneers registered a point in the matchup. Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) recorded a hat trick to lead the goal scoring. This was her fifth career game with three or more goals and her first hat trick of the season. Maddie Esposito (Ashburn, VA/Boston Shamrocks) recorded a shutout in goal for Utica with 18 saves in what was her first start in goal of the season.

The Pioneers came out hot right out of the gate. Sloan got the scoring going 4:13 into the action. Sloan's goal was assisted by Santullo and Nicole Flak (Middleton, MA/Boston Shamrocks), who were both setting up goals throughout the game as Santullo finished with four assists and Flak recorded three. Utica kept the scoring coming consistently throughout the period scoring their next at the 9:27 mark followed by a steady onslaught of goals in the 12th, 15th, and 18th minutes. Sloan would score her second goal in the first along with Holly Silva (Boston, MA/Worcester Academy), Molly Pedone (Trinity, FL/Robert Morris), Maggie Rylott (Cobourg, Ontario/West Northumberland) each adding one of their own. Carolyn Whitney (Raleigh, NC/Milbrook School) had two assists in the first frame.

After putting up five goals in the first period, the Pioneers proceeded to add five more to their tally for a total of 10 after two. The first of the five goals would come only 50 seconds into the period Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) finding the back of the net. Utica would score their next two goals while in a powerplay as Carolyn Whitney (Raleigh, NC/Milbrook School) scored at the 3:45 mark and Hailey Modlin (Phoenix, AZ/Boston Shamrocks) netted the other 13 minutes into the period. Modlin has now scored in back-to-back games after she was responsible for providing the equalizer in Tuesday's tie against No. 7 Hamilton. Santullo and Sloan would round out the scoring in the second for what was another dominant period. Ava Suda (Cheektowaga, NY/Buffalo Bisons) recorded two assists in the second as well.

Even with their insurmountable 10 goal lead going into the third, Utica didn't take its foot off the gas and added three more goals to bring them to their total of 13. Eight minutes into the third, Utica seized another powerplay opportunity as Madison Novotny (Wesley Chapel, FL/Northwood School) netted her third goal of the season unassisted. Erica Sheaffer (New Hartford, NY/Wilkes University) would get in on the scoring onslaught just four minutes later as she scored her third goal of the season as well amidst a penalty kill. Cortney Staniszewski (Buffalo, NY/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) rounded out this high scoring matchup with a goal 18:28 into the third off what was Nicole Flak's (Middleton, MA/Boston Shamrocks) third assist of the game.
