GENEVA, NY - The Utica University men's soccer team fell to Hobart College 1-0 in its final non-conference bout of the season.

Hobart led the shots battle with 13 to Utica's 10, while the Statesmen also led in corners with 8 to the Pioneers' 2. Utica fired off plenty of great shots forcing seven saves for the Hobart goalkeeper.

Brandon Pender (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) led the way with three shots while the duo of
Ryan Ching (Temple City, CA/Temple City) and
Adin Day (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) continued to blossom and each fired off two.
Noah Scranton (Utica, NY/Whitesboro),
Evan Smith (Baldwinsville, NY/Barker), and
James Williams (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) each registered one shot in the contest.

Zachary Accetta (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) made his second career start in net and played well making two saves and allowing just one goal.

It was a scrappy first half with each team firing off at least four shots and creating plenty of scoring opportunities yet neither side could break through leaving the match tied 0–0 going into the half.

The Statesmen came out with pressure scoring at the 51:02 mark to grab a 1-0 edge in the contest. Utica kept the pressure on with two shots by Pender requiring a pair of fine saves to keep the Statesmen ahead. The Pioneers had a few more scoring chances yet could not convert and Hobart held on for a 1-0 victory.Â

Utica (4-7-3, 2-2-2 Empire 8) will remain on the road and face Alfred University on Saturday, October 21 at 4:30 p.m. in a crucial conference match.
