ONEONTA, NY - The fifth seeded Utica University men's soccer team fell to the four seeded Hartwick College Hawks 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Byamungu Mugushu (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) led the offense with two shots while
Anderson Velazquez (Norwood, NY/Marble Hill),
Ryan Ching (Temple City, CA/Temple City),
Evan Smith (Baldwinsville, NY/Barker), and
Noah Nassberg (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) each recorded one.
Zachary Accetta (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) started in goal for Utica allowing two goals.
The first half saw four shots for Utica and one shot for Hartwick.
Evan Smith (Baldwinsville, NY/Barker) recorded the first shot of the match at the 15 minute mark but was stopped by Hartwick goalkeeper Dante Gesamondo. The Hawks struck first 42 minutes in, Sean Burke found Timmy McQueeney to put Hartwick up 1-0. Utica's
Noah Nassberg (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) registered the Pioneers last shot in the first half but was turned away by Gesamondo.
The second half began slowly with both teams battling for possession for the first 20 minutes of the half. Hartwick took command and started to bring pressure quickly forcing a corner kick at the 67th minute yet could not convert. Utica had its chances yet could not convert with the Hartwick defense holding strong. The Hawks tacked on another late goal at the 87th minute mark and held on to win the match 2-0.
