UTICA, NY- Utica Pioneers senior Andrew Wieder (Clinton, NY/Clinton) participated in the men's heptathlon events on Friday, December 8. Wieder was the lone competitor for the Pioneers and currently sits in second place with a point total of 2,327. The senior is an experienced heptathlete, finishing second at last year's Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championships, and also has a second-place finish at regionals under his belt in 2022. 
 
Wieder ran a 7.65 in the 60m in the first event to finish fourth. In the long jump, he placed second with a best jump of 5.98m, just behind first place by a few inches. In the shot put, Wieder placed third with a 10.03m throw. The day's last event was the high jump, where he placed second clearing a height of 1.76m. 
 
Wieder's heptathlon will continue tomorrow with the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m, along with all other events of the meet beginning at 10:15 a.m.
