Offense Erupts for 19 Goals in Women's Lacrosse's Win Over Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, NY - The Utica University women's lacrosse team saw its first action in 11 days and showed no signs of rust with a 19-8 road win over the Morrisville State Mustangs on Wednesday evening.

Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led the Pioneers with eight points on five goals and three assists. Grace Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) tallied seven points on four goals and three assists while Alyssa Pisano (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) and Daniela Muscari (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) netted three goals each in the win.

In goal, Breese Burlingame (Binghamton, NY/Northfield Mount Hermon) picked up the win after making six saves with four goals allowed over 45 minutes. Abigail Reed (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) and Shaylynn Palmer (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) split time in the fourth quarter for a combined three saves and four goals allowed.

As a unit, Utica outshot Morrisville 26-17 on goal and had five fewer turnovers over the course of the game.

The sides were tight over the first 10 minutes of action as a 2-0 Utica lead turned into a 2-2 game over the first five minutes. DeCondo scored her first of the night with roughly eight minutes to go in the first, but Morrisville evened the score once again a few minutes later.

From there, the Pioneers began to separate from the Mustangs. DeCondo and Stuhlman each scored towards the end of the quarter to give the team a 5-3 edge entering the second. The Pioneers went on to score eight goals in the second, led by DeCondo's three, while Burlingame stopped both Morrisville shots on goal in the quarter to help bring the team into half up 13-3.

The Pioneers opened the second half with the first three goals scored to push their lead to 16-3. Morrisville netted four straight goals between the end of the third and start of the fourth, but the damage was already done as Utica cruised to an 11-goal victory.

Utica (4-1, 0-0 Empire 8) will remain on the road when the team travels to Troy, NY on Saturday to take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 2 p.m.
