Men's Lacrosse Falls in Non-Conference Play to Hamilton

CLINTON, NY - The Utica University men's lacrosse team fell on the road to the Hamilton College Continentals 20-5 on Tuesday evening.

Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) led the Pioneers with two goals, both of which unassisted, while Luke Rinaudo-Concessi (Babylon, NY/West Babylon), Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) and Noah Erickson (Auburn, NY/Auburn) each had one. Erickson's goal also marked the first of his collegiate career. In goal, Jake Bowen (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) made 11 saves in the losing effort.

Hamilton outshot Utica 56-19 on the evening and picked up 51 ground balls to Utica's 21. The sides were nearly even in turnovers as the Pioneers forced 25 Continental turnovers to their own 27 giveaways.

The game started well for Utica as Serrano sent in his first goal of the game just over one minute into the contest for an early 1-0 Pioneer lead. However, Hamilton quickly responded with the game-tying goal as part of 10 in a row for a 10-1 lead midway through the second quarter.

Utica ended the half on a high note as Rinaudo-Concessi, Erickson and Serrano scored three straight to come within six goals at halftime.

From there, Hamilton controlled the entire second half with six third quarter goals to lead 16-4 entering the final 15 minutes of play before outscoring the Pioneers 4-1 in the fourth. The lone Utica goal of the second half came from Costanza, who was assisted by Jonathan Chilinski (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) with 8:45 to play in the fourth.

Utica (1-3, 0-0 Empire 8) will begin a five-game homestand at 2 p.m. this Saturday against Castleton University.
