Men's Lacrosse Falls at Home to Hartwick

UTICA, NY- The Utica University men's lacrosse team fell to Hartwick College 14-3 on Wednesday afternoon in an Empire 8 matchup. 
 
Freshman Nolan Shea (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) scored two goals in the contest. Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) kept his point-streak alive, with his sixth game in a row scoring at least one goal. Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) leads the team in assists as he dished out one. 
 
Sophomore Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started in-net for Utica, he tallied five saves. Jake Bowen (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) took over with 36:35 left in the second quarter and gobbled up five shots.
 
Ethan Brown (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) and Gianpaul Cooper (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) led the Pioneers in ground balls each, recording four. 
 
The Hawks jumped out to an early 7-0 lead with 13:28 left in the second quarter. Nolan Shea (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) got the Pioneers on the board early in the second frame on a beautiful individual effort to cut the lead to six. The goal gave Utica momentum as they notched two more in third quarter and trailed 10-to-3, one goal by Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) with the assist from Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park). The third goal was Shea's second of the contest with 2:06 left in the third quarter on another individual effort.  
 
Hartwick scored the next five goals in the fourth quarter and never looked back. Garret Frost led the Hawks with six goals. Pete Conley had four assists and one goal. In net, Kyle McKee made 14 saves. 
 
Utica University (5-9, 1-3 Empire 8) returns to action Saturday as they host Medaille University at 3 p.m. The game will feature Senior Day and Mike Parnell Day.
