Softball Falls to Hamilton

CLINTON, NY - The Utica University softball team dropped its match to Hamilton College by a score of 13-5 (5 Inn.)
 
Emily Joss (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls), Kylie Murray (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester), Lauren Paul (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Alyssa Barbato (Rhinebeck, NY/Rhinebeck), and Erica Sanford (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) each recorded one hit in the contest. Lauren Paul (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) led the way with two RBIs while Joss, Murray, and Bailey McElwain (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W. Baker High School) each had one RBI. 
 
In the circle, Jordyn Conte (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley High School) was credited with the loss after going 0.2 innings while allowing five runs, two earned, on two hits with three walks. She was relieved by Maggie Habernig (Kingston, NY/Kingston) who went one inning allowing seven runs, three earned on seven hits with two walks.
 
Lucia Gargiulo (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) pitched one inning allowing one earned run on three hits. Kelly Thornton (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley Regional) was the final Utica pitcher and pitched a perfect fourth inning.
 
Hamilton jumped quickly on Utica scoring five in the 1st inning, seven in the 2nd, and one in the 3rd. 
 
Utica rallied, scoring two in the 3rd and three in the 4th. A Joss double and Paul single got the Pioneers on the board in the 3rd. A clutch hit by Erica Sanford (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) and walks by Murray and Paul helped the Pioneers score its three runs in the 4th inning. 
 
Utica (17-14, 6-6 Empire 8) will head to Houghton, NY to face Houghton University in an Empire 8 doubleheader on Friday, April 28 with game one beginning at 3 p.m.
