History Made: In qualifying for nationals,
Jane Fahy (Oriskany, NY/MVCC/Oriskany) has become Utica's first-ever female thrower to compete at the NCAA Championships. She ranked atop of the Niagara Region and is 16th in the nation with a school-record mark of 13.84m in the shot put which she accomplished last week at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships. Fahy enters nationals on a hot streak as she has tallied six individual shot put wins over her last seven outings. Two of her wins came at the Empire 8 Championships and the AARTFC Championships. Fahy will compete in the first flight on Friday.
Round Two: Another outdoor season, another trip to the NCAA Championships for
Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College). The junior enters the field with the 10th-farthest throw in DIII at 16.72m, a toss that solidified his All-Region status and earned him the Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Week honor. It was also the second-farthest throw of his career. At last season's NCAA Championships, the All-American finished third with a personal best throw of 17.25m. Logan will be competing in the second flight on Friday.
First Time Around: Justin Swavely (Rome, NY/RFA) (Rome, NY/RFA) continues to cash in on a remarkable outdoor season with his first career trip to the NCAA Championships. The All-Region honoree topped the Niagara Region with a mark of 61.73m in the javelin which he set at the CNY Fast Chance Meet on May 14. His toss was a school and facility record while also being the first throw over 60m/200 feet in school history. He ranks 14th nationally with his top mark and is one of 18 athletes across the country to have a throw of 60m or greater. Swavely will compete in the first flight on Thursday.
