Track and Field Tunes Up With Tomorrow's RPI Capital District Classic

UTICA, NY - After another week of stellar performances with 11 first place finishes at the Cortland Classic, the Pioneers will have a tune-up meet this Friday, before taking on the Empire 8 Championships next weekend. This Friday, the team will be heading to RPI in Troy, NY, to compete in the RPI Capital District Classic at Harkness Field.
 
TROY, NY - On Friday, April 24th, the Utica University men's and women's track and field team will travel to RPI to compete in the RPI Capital District Classic at Harkness Field. The events will start at 2:00 PM.

Last Time Out - the Pioneers would compete on Friday and Saturday at the Cortland Classic. The weekend would result in 11 first-place finishes for the Pioneers. Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) (2x), Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda-Fultonville), Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer), Jade Bailey (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville), Kaiden McCaskill (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), Men's 4x800m (Timothy Jeralds (Canaan, NY/Chatham Central), Ben Bellinger, Eddy Corporan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham), Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda-Fultonville)), Olivia Jensen (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook), Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central), Tanner Warren (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy), and Women's 4x800m (Manna, McClendon, Simmons, Townsend) all took home top scores in their respective events.
 
Last Friday at Cortland
Melita competed in the 1500m. He would get a first-place finish and get an AARTFC-qualifying time of 3:58.39.
McCallum would compete in the Pole Vault. She would finish with a mark of 3.20m. This would give her a second-place finish and would tie the program record for the event.
 
Last Saturday at Cortland
Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) continued her outstanding season on Saturday, competing in the Discus and Shot Put. She would finish first in both events with marks of 46.59m in the Discus and 13.91m in the Shot Put. The 46.59m for the discus would be the all-time program record, and the 13.91m for the Shot Put would put her second in program history. Both marks are #6 in the country.
 
Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) would compete in the 800m. She finished with a time of 2:19.85. This would give her a fourth-place finish and the program record for the event.
 
Jade Bailey (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) would also wrap up her stellar weekend outing in the heptathlon, as the rookie secured first place in the event with a score of 3,851 points, the fifth best mark in program history for the event.
