Pioneers Continue Outdoor Season at This Weekend's Cortland Classic

 

One week after racking up another impressive performance with 13 first place finishes at Hamilton College, the Pioneers will be heading back to Cortland on Friday and Saturday, this time as a much larger unit, to compete at the Cortland Classic at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

CORTLAND, NY - On Friday, April 3rd and Saturday, April 4th, the Utica University men's and women's track and field team will travel to Cortland State to compete in the Cortland Classic at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The events will start at 3:00 PM on Friday and 9:00 AM on Saturday.

Last Time Out -  the Pioneers had some long-distance runners participate on Saturday at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, while the majority of the team would participate in the Continental Spring Invite at Hamilton College. The weekend would result in 13 first-place finishes for the Pioneers. Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) (2x), Forest Martin (Poland, NY/Poland Central), Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham), Jack Rathburn (Clarendon Hills, IL/Westmont), Kaiden McCaskill (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), Olivia Jensen (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook), Patrick Wands (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Spencer Borghardt (Smithtown, NY/St.Anthony's), Shiann Williams (Bronx, NY/Hydel), Tanner Warren (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy), Timothy Jeralds (Canaan, NY/Chatham Central), and Wayne Spencer (Rochester, NY/Padilla (Franklin Campus)) all took home top scores in their respective events.

Last Saturday at Bucknell
Melita competed in the 3000m Steeplechase. He would break the program record with a time of 9:03.22. That would give him the #1 rank in the region and the #6th-best mark in all of DIII.

Townsend would compete in the 10000m. She would finish with a time of 38:15.88. This would give her a third-place finish and would net her the program's #2 all-time mark while also giving her the 12th-best mark in the region.

Last Saturday at Hamilton
Warren competed in the 400m. He would get a first-place finish with a time of 49.26. This would give him the #9 rank in the region.

Jensen would compete in the 100m Hurdles. She would finish with a time of 15.26. This would give her a third-place finish, the #3 program time for the 100m Hurdles, and the #7-best mark in the region.

Following the Cortland Classic: The Pioneers are heading to RPI next weekend before gearing up for the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships, which will take place on May 1st and 2nd at St. John Fisher.
