Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to Hamilton

UTICA, NY - Local teams squared off at Laura M. Casamento Field on Wednesday evening as the Utica University and Hamilton College women's soccer teams met for a non-conference matchup. At the end, it was the visiting Continentals who came away with a 3-0 win over the Pioneers.

Hamilton's three goals came in the 25th, 88th and 90th minutes as Erin Rayhill totaled the final two while Tori Morelli netted the first and ultimate game-winner. Utica's four shots came from Julianna Beaulieu (Southwick, MA/Chicopee Comprehensive) (two, one on goal), Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) (one on goal) and Jazmyn Gillette (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy). In goal, Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) made three saves in the losing effort.

The Continentals outshot Utica 17-6 overall and 6-2 on goal over the course of the contest.

Hamilton attacked early and often as the team fired off six shots over the first 24 minutes of play. The team broke through four seconds into the 25th minute on a header by Morelli off a corner kick off the foot of Olivia Zubarik. About six minutes later, the Pioneers came within inches of evening the score off their own corner kick.

Rylee Lamphere's (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) corner kick fell into position for Mochak to have a clean angle on goal. Mochak's header took a bounce off the post and while the ball appeared to cross the line, Hamilton goalkeeper Claire Robinson came in at the final second to make the save and keep Utica off the board. The game eventually moved into halftime with Utica trailing by one.

The Pioneer defense held their ground throughout the second half despite the pair of late Hamilton goals. Rayhill's first tally came following a corner kick at the 87:44 mark before she netted an unassisted goal at 89:02 to close out the game.

Utica (4-3, 0-0 Empire 8) will open its slate of Empire 8 games on Saturday when the team welcomes Alfred University to Casamento Field at 4 p.m.
