UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team defeated SUNY Poly 3-0 on Wednesday evening.
Just 20 minutes into the first half
Jazmyn Gillette (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) sent a missile from the top right corner of the box to the back left corner of the goal to give Utica a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later seniors
Gabriela Daumont (Latham, NY/Shaker) and
Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) connected in front of the net after Daumont gave Mochak a beautiful assist for the 2-0 lead.
The first half was dominated by the Utica offense which kept the Poly defense guessing, recording nine shots on goal compared to Poly's zero. Utica's defense was flawless, not giving an inch to the Wildcats as they kept the ball in the attacking half for the majority of the half. Defenders
Jenna Keeman (Douglas, MA/Douglas),
Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury),
Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) and
Kayla Giovingo (Centereach, NY/Centereach) protected goalkeeper
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) allowing no shots on goal through the first. At the end of the first half, Utica led 2-0.
Utica used their offensive momentum in the second half scoring in the 70th minute with Lamphere finding Gillette for her third goal in two games to put the Pioneers up 3-0.
Goalkeepers
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and
Cierra Doolen (Frankfort, NY/Central Valley Academy) each saw time in net. Connolly started the match playing in 80 minutes and recording another clean sheet while Doolen finished off the last ten minutes of the game.
