UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's wrestling team competes in its first tri-meet of 2024 as they travel to Rochester, NY on Wednesday, January 10 at 5 p.m. Utica will face St. John Fisher University and Elmira College. On Saturday, January 13 at 10 a.m. the team heads to Collegeville, PA for the Ursisnus College Will Abele Tournament.
Last Time Out: At the Oneonta Tri-Meet on December 9,
Trevor Cortright (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) started the day strongly pinning Ralph Nieves of Keystone at the 2:09 mark to earn Utica six points in the match.
Billy Beseth (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) then topped Justin Santiago by tech fall, 16-1 to put the Pioneers up 11-3 in the contest.
Logan Krouse (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) pinned Mariano Monacelli at the 2:17 mark to give Utica a 17-9 edge. The Pioneers kept the aggression going with
Gage Tedesco (Waverly, NY/Waverly) pinning Louis Frisenda at the 2:28 mark to put Utica up 23-9 in the match. Keystone would claw back yet the Pioneers won the match 23-20.
Trevor Cortright (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) capped off his day by pinning Danny Poggi at the 4:36 mark to pick up six points for Utica in the contest.
Seth Richardson (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) earned a win by decision over Esdras Ramos, 8-1. The two teams also participated in four exhibition bouts with Utica winning two of them.
Mikael Neris (Medford, NY/Bellport) won by decision over Giovanni Russo 8-5 with
Mathews Bonato (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) topping Faraz Rasuli via pin at the 1:53 mark.

Stackin' Wins: Utica has two freshmen who have been making an immediate impact
. Trevor Cortright (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) and
Billy Beseth (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt). Cortright is 13-5 this season with four decision wins, four tech fall wins and five pins along with earning SUNYAC Rookie of the Week on November 5. Beseth has been off to a hot start in his freshman season, recording six wins. Three by decision, two by tech fall and one pin. Beseth is currently on a two-match winning streak for the Pioneers.
Scouting Fisher: The Cardinals are 3-0 overall with wins against SUNY Brockport (45-6), Alfred State College (27-16), and SUNY Cortland (27-20). Wins against Brockport were claimed by Daniel Parkulo, Derek Bernardino Alex Samson, Joshua Maslyn, Paul Lichter and Otto Davidson Michael Watts, Braydon Vandenberg and Jackson Burns. Parkulo, Samson, Maslyn, Ryleigh Duryree and Vandenberg earned wins against Alfred State and Cortland. Vandenberg is ranked No. 14 in the OpenMat rankings.
Elmira Outlook: The Elmira Soaring Eagles are 0-7 overall. Elmira's most recent meet was at the Pennslyvania College Open in Williamsport, PA where the team placed eight out of eight teams. The Soaring Eagles had three top finishers at the Penn Open, Darius Green (285lb), Bryan Stafford (174lb) and Hollis Berry (157lb).
Ursinus Scout: The Grizzly Bears sport a 5-1 overall record. Ursinus has wins over Southern Virginia University (39-10), Elmira College (47-9), Messiah University (25-16), York College (29-16), Shippensburg University (35-14). The Team's lone loss came to Trinity College, 26-18.
Fisher's Wrestling Facility: The Manning & Napier Varsity Gym is St. John Fisher's home for men's and women's basketball, volleyball and wrestling team.
Ursisinus's Wrestling Facility: The Floy Lewis Bakes Center fieldhouse is the home of Ursinus's men's and women's team.
