UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team fell to the Russell Sage College Gators in an Empire 8 Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 1-0.
Bella Noble (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) recorded three shots in the contest, while
Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) recorded two.
Lindsay Fleshman (Owings, MD/Northern),
Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury), and
Rory Richard (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) all recorded one shot, while Fleshman's efforts were the only to fall on goal for the Pioneers. In goal,
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) made two saves.
The first half would see Utica attempt to put one by the Sage goalkeeper less than four minutes into the contest on an effort from
Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury), followed shortly thereafter by an effort from
Lindsay Fleshman (Owings, MD/Northern). The Pioneers would not let Sage get a shot off until the 12th minute, which would be stopped by goalkeeper
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley). Neither team would be able to get the momentum going in its favor, as the Pioneers would go into the half in a scoreless draw.
The second frame would see the Pioneers get back to back shots off before Sage would find its footing, and the back of the net, squeezing one by Connolly to take the lead at 1-0 in the 64th minute. Utica would try to spark the offense for the remainder of the half, but to no avail as Sage would walk away with the win, 1-0.
Utica (4-8, 2-4 Empire 8) will be back in action on Saturday, October 5 as the team travels to Alfred, NY to take on the Alfred University Saxons. Game time is set for 6pm.
