No. 7 Women's Hockey Falls to the Golden Flyers

ROCHESTER, NY - The No. 7 Utica University women's hockey team fell 4-1 to the Nazareth University Golden Flyers on Friday evening in UCHC play. Hailey Modlin (Phoenix, AZ/Boston Shamrocks) scored the Pioneer's lone goal.
 
Kaci Ryder (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsburg (Lady Flames)) tallied Utica's only assist on the evening. The team totaled 23 shots from 12 different players. Autumn Mish (Long Lake, NY/University of New Hampshire (NCAA DI)) totaled four shots and Ryder and Elliana Lasher (Clifton Park, NY/Rome Hockey) had three shots each. Modlin, Jordan Hancock (Albuquerque, NM/Belle Tire) and Ally Nolan (Westford, MA/Chatham University (NCAA DIII)) had two. Maya Jerome (Belleville, MI/Belle Tire), Kendall Best (Troy, MI/Troy (Belle Tire)), Riley Calhoun (New Hartford, NY/Plattsburgh State University (NCAA DIII)), Madison Richman (Scituate, MA/North Shore Vipers) and Emma Corbet notched one shot. 
 
Best, Jordan Kowalski (Chicopee, MA/Plattsburgh State (NCAA DIII)) and Modlin combined for 28 faceoff wins.
 
Angela Hawthorne (Santa Clara, CA/Meijer) started in net, totaling 27 saves. She made 12 in the first, nine in the second, and six in the third.
 
Nazareth opened the scoring in the first period with a shot from the blue line from Ella Cedrone which trickled into the back of the net. That would be the only goal scored in the first period as Nazareth went into the second with a 1-0 lead.
 
The Golden Flyers added two more goals in the second period from Cedrone and Allie Zack. The team would enter the third period with a 3-0 advantage.
 
Modlin would score Utica's only goal 46 seconds into the third period on an assist from Ryder to cut the lead to 3-1. The Pioneers pulled Hawthorne late in the period, which led to an empty net goal from the Golden Flyers as they went on to win 4-1. 
 
Utica (6-1-0, 2-1-0 UCHC) hosts Nazareth University on Saturday, November 23 at 2 p.m. The game will be played at the Utica University Nexus Center.
