UTICA, NY - The No. 14 Utica University women's hockey team took down the King's College Monarchs 10-1 on Wednesday evening.
Utica outshot King's 55 to 10 along with winning 38 of 57 faceoffs.
Sydney Mintz (Kelowna, BC/Okanagan Hockey Academy) and
Angelina Garganese (Winter Springs, Fl/Florida Alliance) (Winter Springs, Fl/Florida Alliance) each posted career highs on the evening. Mintz had a fantastic game as she scored two goals and three assists.

Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) and
Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) had one goal each.

Goaltender
Lauryn Brown (Eden, NY/Syracuse Valley Eagles) started in net for Utica, posting nine saves. She stopped eight shots between the second and third period.
Utica struck early and often in the first period as the team let off 14 shots in just 10 minutes of action.
Madison Novotny (Wesley Chapel, FL/Northwood School) scored off assists from Callie Mclaughlin and
Abby Lillis (West Seneca, NY/Buffalo Bisons) giving the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead. About three minutes later,
Maggie Rylott (Cobourg, Ontario/West Northumberland) and
Hailey Modlin (Phoenix, AZ/Boston Shamrocks) found
Carolyn Whitney (Raleigh, NC/Millbrook School) who scored, extending Utica's lead to 2-0. Then 6:06 into the period,
Autumn Mish (Long Lake, NY/University of New Hampshire (NCAA DI)) scored with an assist credited to
Cortney Staniszewski (Buffalo, NY/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles), putting Utica up 3-0.
Utica scored again with 7:23 on the clock as Whitney and Modlin found Rylott on the back door to extend Utica's lead to 4-0. Soon after,
Molly Pedone (Trinity, FL/Shattuck-St. Mary's) and
Sydney Mintz (Kelowna, BC/Okanagan Hockey Academy) got the puck to
Angelina Garganese (Winter Springs, Fl/Florida Alliance) (Winter Springs, Fl/Florida Alliance), who scored her first career goal, giving the Pioneers a 5-0 lead heading into the second period.
King's goaltender Syd Dahl started in net for the Monarchs in the second period. Dahl had a great showing as she stopped 11 pucks, shutting out Utica in the second period. The Monarchs would cut the lead to 5-1 as Rae Hughes scored in the slot on a beautiful shot with assists from Brighton Wallin and Emma Besa. The teams would head into the third period with Utica up 5-1.
Utica picked up the pace again in the third period, scoring five goals. Two minutes into the third, Mintz scored as assists came from Garganese and Mish. Just under 16 minutes to play, Mintz found Garganese who extended the lead to 7-1. Mintz,
Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) and
Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) each collected goals of their own for Utica under the 10-minute mark to ultimately put away the Monarchs 10-1.
With Sloan's tally, it marked the 73rd of her accomplished Pioneer career, putting her one away from tying the all-time program record in goals and two away from becoming the sole leader.
Utica (19-3-2, 15-2-2, UCHC) will host King's College again on Saturday, February 17 at 3 p.m. to close out the regular season.
