HAMILTON, NY- The Utica University women's indoor track and field team took first place at the Colgate Class of '32 meet on Saturday, February 17. The women's team scored 189 points and won 11 total events.
In the 500m,
Arianna McClendon (/New York Mills) broke her own school record with a time of 1:18.17. McClendon also won the 200m with a time of 26.88. Also in the 200m,
Alyssa Youngs (Constableville/West Canada Valley) was second (27.79) and
Amelia Petersen (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) was fifth (28.64). This was a personal best time for Youngs and Petersen. In the 60m,
Zeniyah Gholson (Monticello, NY/Monticello) qualified for finals and took the win with a time of 8.40. In the 300m,
Olivia Jensen (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) ran 49.11 to take the win in her first time running the event. At 400m, the Pioneers went one-two-three.
Janaiya Cruz-Bermudez (East Hartford, CT/East Hartford) was first (1:02.37)
Claudia Simione (Lebanon, NH/Lebanon) was second (1:02.41), and
Abriana Wadley (Utica, NY/Proctor) was third (1:02.95). This was a personal best time for Simione.
In the 800m, the team also took the top three spots.
Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen) was first (2:27.06),
Noella Burlette (Manchester, CT/Manchester) was second (2:42.08) and
Emma Zacharewicz (Round Lake, NY/Saratoga Central Catholic) was third (3:05.48).
The Pioneers dominated the meet in the throwing events as they usually do. In shot put,
Jane Fahy (Oriskany, NY/MVCC/Oriskany) took first place for the sixth time this season, throwing 13.23m. The team also took the rest of the top five spots, as
Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was second (12.12m),
Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) was third (11.03m),
Megan Brinck (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was fourth (10.54m), and
Ranasia Bailey (Parish, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) was fifth (9.76m). In weight throw, the team was just as dominant as they took all of the top five spots once again. King was first (14.15m), Bailey was second (14.13m), Cary was third (13.91m),
Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Royce Ketcham) was fourth (13.38m), and
Abbie Knaisch (Addison, NY/Addison) was fifth (10.71m).
In the jumping events,
Nora Devitt (Beverly, MA/Beverly) took first place in both long and triple jump. For long jump, Devitt took the win with a leap of 5.23m, and
Nyasia Marsh (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) was second (4.87m). In triple jump, Devitt was first once again as she jumped 10.96m, Marsh took second place again (10.47m)
Sophia Bruce (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) was third (9.92m) and
Camdyn Cole (Cortland, NY/Homer) was fourth (9.81m).
The womens 4x400m relay team of
Noella Burlette (Manchester, CT/Manchester),
Emma Zacharewicz (Round Lake, NY/Saratoga Central Catholic),
Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen) and
Cassondra Wood (Canasota, NY/Canasota) took first place with a time of 5:11.27
The Pioneers will turn their attention to the Empire 8 Championships next weekend at Houghton University. Day one will begin on Friday, February 23 at 3 p.m., and day two to follow on Saturday, February 10 at 10 a.m.
