THROGGS NECK, NY - The Utica University baseball team fell 6-0 to Maritime College on Saturday afternoon in the team's first game of the season.

Jack Scanlon (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) recorded the lone Pioneer hit with a scorching single in the 6th inning.

It was a busy day on the mound with five Utica pitchers seeing action.
Kooper Knabe (Cortland, NY/Cortland) got the start going three innings, on two hits, two earned runs, with three walks, and four strikeouts while being credited with the loss. He was relieved by
Christian Cicchetti (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) who went one inning allowing just one hit and striking out one.

Tim Martin (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls Lima) pitched an inning allowing no hits and one walk while striking out one.
Nicholas Greene (Rome, NY/Central Valley Academy) went two innings allowing just one hit, one unearned run and striking out two.
Jack Krug (Rotterdam Junction, NY/Canajoharie) closed out the game for the Pioneers, throwing one inning allowing one hit, three runs, two earned, with one walk.

After a scoreless 1st inning, Maritime tacked on a pair of runs to grab an early 2-0 lead with a single and wild pitch bringing home the runs.

Maritime continued to chip away, scoring one in the 7th before adding three runs in the bottom of the 8th to seal the 6-0 victory.

Utica (0-1, 0-0 Empire 8) will face Maritime in a doubleheader on Sunday, February 25 with game one beginning at 11 a.m.
