Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to Potsdam

UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's lacrosse team fell to SUNY Potsdam 13-3 on Wednesday evening.
 
John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) led Utica with two goals and five shots on goal. Colin Musso (Auburn, NY/Auburn) scored his first career goal along with one ground ball. Ryan Considine (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) and Quinn Orsini (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) had one assist each. The Pioneers outshot Potsdam 24 to 20 and at least 10 players registered at least one shot on goal.
 
Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started in net for Utica, posting seven saves.
 
Jack Hogan (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) went eight for 18 at the faceoff dot, winning five in the first half.
 
Potsdam got off to a hot start in the first six minutes of play scoring six unanswered goals. With 4:27 left in the first, Spoto tallied Utica's first goal on a man-up opportunity with an assist from Serrano resulting in a 6-1 Potsdam lead. This now puts Serrano on an 11-game point streak dating back to March 25, 2023. In those 11 games, he's collected  22 points.
 
The Bears scored with 6:06 in the second quarter, extending the lead to 7-1. With 1:15 left to play, Considine found Spoto who capitalized for his second goal of 2024 cutting the score to 7-2. Potsdam would close out the second quarter with a goal and would head into the second half up 8-2.
 
Utica had 11 shots on goal in the second half along with going seven for eight on clears. With 13 seconds to play in the fourth quarter, Musso recorded his first collegiate goal with an assist to Orsini. The Bears went on to defeat Utica 13-3.
 
Utica (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8) travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA for a matchup against Wilke University on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
