CANTON, NY - The Utica University men's lacrosse team picked up its second consecutive win, defeating SUNY Canton 14-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout Valley) led Utica with four goals, one assist, three ground balls and six shots on goal.
John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) and
Lucas Donahue (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) scored three goals each.

Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started in net collecting his third win with eight saves and
Jake Bowen (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) finished the afternoon in net with two saves.

Jack Hogan (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) went 11 for 15 at the face-off strip giving Utica plenty of offensive possessions.

Canton scored the first goal, giving the Kangaroos a 1-0 lead with 9:28 to play. Just over a minute later, Serrano evened the game for Utica at one. With 6:31 to play, Serrano assisted Spoto, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
Lucas Donahue (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) tallied his second goal of his freshman campaign with 44 seconds to play on a man-up opportunity as Utica would close out the first quarter up, 3-1. Utica and Canton combined for 16 shots on goal in the first, 11 for Utica and five for Canton.

Both teams played stout defense in the second quarter as only seven shots on goal were recorded, four for Utica and three for Canton. With 2:23 to play in the quarter, Mecca assisted Donahue to give Utica a 4-1 lead, and exactly one minute later, Serrano scored a man-up goal with an assist credited to Costanza. Utica would jump out to a 5-1 lead heading into halftime.

Utica's offense was clicking on all cylinders in the third quarter as three different players scored the first three goals in the first nine minutes. Utica would close out the third on a three-goal run heading into the fourth quarter with a 10-2 advantage.

The Pioneers opened the fourth quarter with two quick goals from Donahue and Considine giving them a 12-2 lead with 12:04 to play. Three more goals were scored in the quarter, one from Canton and two from Utica. The Pioneers would go on to win 14-3.

Utica (3-3, 0-0 Empire 8) travels to Oswego State on Wednesday, March 20 at 4 p.m.
