Rochester, NY - The Utica University men's indoor track and field team concluded day two of the AATRFC championships on Saturday, March 2. The men's team placed 11th overall, scoring 21 points out of over 50 schools.
Freshman
Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) continues to leave his mark on the program, this time breaking his own school record in the 3000m. Melita ran an 8:32.17 that not only broke his previous record, but placed him seventh overall in the event.
In the weight throw, the men had two top-ten finishers.
Antwan Kelly (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) took third place (17.70m),
Justin Swavely (Rome, NY/RFA) was ninth (16.31m) and
Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) placed 16th (15.34m). This was a personal best throw for Swavely and now has him ranked second all-time in program history for that event.
The team had a top-ten finish in the 4x200m relay as well. The squad of
Andy Hadasz (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro),
Tanner Warren (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy),
Connor Dean (Taberg, Ny/Camden) and
Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel) ran a season-best time of 1:31.88 to give them seventh overall. Hadasz along with
Ethan Kain (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) also ran the 200m. Hadasaz placed tenth (22.35) and Kain ran an indoor personal best time of 22.99, giving him 20th overall and is now ranked tenth all-time in program history.
Andrew Wieder (Clinton, NY/Clinton) completed the remaining events in his heptathlon which included the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m. He was ninth in 60m hurdles (9.67), third in pole vault (3.65m), and also third in the 1000m (2:55.35). Wieder's overall point total of 4185 gave him seventh overall at the meet.
For those qualified, the team will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship meet at Virginia Beach beginning on Friday, March 8 and continuing Saturday, March 9.
