Men's Lacrosse Falls to Hamilton College

UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's lacrosse team fell to Hamilton College 22-1 on Tuesday evening.
 
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) collected Utica's lone goal with an assist from Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park). Four players had at least one shot on goal and 10 players had at least one ground ball. Andrew Sacco (New Haven, CT/North Haven) and Ethan Brown (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) led the Pioneers with three caused turnovers each.
 
Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started in net for Utica making five saves. Jake Bowen (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) saw time in goal posting four saves and Max Frenette (Holyoke, MA/Amherst Regional) made his first career save as a Pioneer.
 
Hamilton and Utica played a contested first quarter as both teams combined for 13 shots on goal, eight for Hamilton and five for Utica. Utica made great defensive stops, playing physical and getting sticks in lanes to cause turnovers. Frank Coyle started the scoring for the Continentals with 10:37 in the first, putting Hamilton up 1-0. Hamilton extended its lead to 4-0 with 6:21 left to play.
 
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) notched Utica's goal with 1:20 to play in the first with a missile from the wing on man-up cutting the lead to 4-1, Hamilton. Serrano extended his point streak to 13, dating back to March 22, 2023. The Continentals scored one more with four seconds remaining as the team went into halftime up 5-1.
 
Hamilton scored nine goals in the second quarter. The team saw eight different goal-scorers in the second as the Continentals went into halftime up 13-1. Utica combined for 10 ground balls in the first half.
 
Utica's defense made some great plays in the third quarter, holding Hamilton to three goals on six shots. Hamilton went in to the fourth quarter with a 17-1 lead. 
 
The Continentals scored five goals in the fourth quarter. Hamilton would go on to win 22-1.
 
Utica (1-3, 0-0 Empire 8) travels to Castleton University for a 1 p.m. face-off.
