CORTLAND, NY - The Utica University women's track and field team competed at two separate meets on Friday, April 19. A majority of the team was at the Cortland Classic which will continue tomorrow, April 20 starting at 9 a.m. The team also sent two Pioneers to Albany to compete at the Bobbie Palma Spring Classic at the University of Albany.

Despite just two athletes representing the Pioneers at the Bobbie Palma Spring Classic in Albany, the team made their presence felt by taking an event win, and a second-place finish. In the shot put,
Jane Fahy (Oriskany, NY/MVCC/Oriskany) took first place with a throw of 14.42m. That throw for Fahy beats her previous school record and is now a new Empire 8 conference record. Also at Albany,
Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) placed second in discus with a throw of 41.63m.

At the Cortland Classic, the team was able to put together great performances. In the 100m,
Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) ran a 12.39 to place second and qualify for tomorrow's finals. This is a season's best time for Mix. In the 100m hurdles, the Pioneers went five-six-seven as
Amelia Petersen (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) was fifth (16.61),
Laura Meade (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) was sixth (17.03), and
Olivia Jensen (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) was seventh (17.18). This was a personal best for Petersen, and season best for Meade. The trio all qualified for tomorrow's finals. Also on the track,
Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen) ran a personal best in the 5000m placing fifth clocking in at 19:24.30. In the javelin throw, the team took the four-five-six spots.
Ranasia Bailey (Parish, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) was fourth (28.33m), Meade was fifth (28.22m), and Elania Furtado-Rahil was sixth (27.17m).Â

Also at Cortland, the Pioneers had four athletes compete in the heptathlon. After day one,
Alyssa Youngs (Constableville/West Canada Valley) is in fourth with 2267 points, Abrianna Wadley is fifth (2191),
Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) is sixth (2074), and
Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) is in tenth (1417). The heptathlon events that were contested today were the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and the 200m. The four will complete the remainder of their heptathlon events tomorrow which are the long jump, javelin, and the 800m.Â

Utica will be back in Cortland, NY tomorrow, April 20 for Day Two of the Cortland Classic beginning at 9 a.m. Â
