COBLESKILL, NY - The Utica University baseball team fell to SUNY Cobleskill 13-3 on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference clash.
 
Andrew Salbinski (Essex, CT/Valley Regional) led the way for Utica going 3-for-5 with a double, one run batted in, and scoring once. Josh Duval (Utica, NY/Proctor) went 1-3 and reached base twice via a walk with Dom Fasolo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) going 1-for-2 and driving in a run on a sacrifice fly. Jason Story (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and John Longeretta (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) each smacked a a base hit in the contest
 
Jack Krug (Rotterdam Junction, NY/Canajoharie) got the start on the bump lasting two innings on three runs, two earned, surrendering a pair of hits and walks and received the loss. He was relieved by Jordan Henkel (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) who went two innings allowing three hits with one walk and striking out three. Tim Martin (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls Lima) was next up pitching one inning allowing five runs, all earned, on four hits and issuing one walk. Aidan McCue (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) relieved him pitching two innings allowing three runs, two earned on three hits with two walks issued. Tyler Catafalmo closed the game out for the Pioneers pitching the final inning allowing a pair of runs, both earned on one hit, issuing a pair of walks and striking out one.
 
Duval got the contest started in the 1st with a walk and later stole second to get into scoring position yet was stranded.
 
Utica gained some momentum in the 2nd as Joe Crossley (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) walked and reached third on an Andrew Salbinski (Essex, CT/Valley Regional) single to give the Pioneers runners on the corners with no one out. Dom Fasolo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) hit a sacrifice fly to score Crossley and Salbinski scored on a wild pitch to give the team a 2-0 lead. Yet, the Fighting Tigers responded smacking a game-tying double in the bottom of the frame to knot the contest at 2-2. Cobleskill capitalized on an error to grab a 3-2 edge after the first two innings of play.
 
A Jason Story (Hilton, NY/Hilton) walk and a John Longeretta (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) single gave the team leadoff baserunners yet both were stranded in the 3rd.
 
After a quite 4th and top of the 5th, Cobleskill put up a four-spot in the bottom of the 5th to grab a commanding 8-3 edge.
 
The Fighting Tigers tacked on a trio of runs in the 7th and a pair in the 8th to extend the lead to 13-3 which would stand as the game's final.
 
Utica (10-21, 4-7 Empire 8) will begin a critical Empire 8 series at Elmira College on Saturday, April 27 with game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
