UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's outdoor track and field team concluded day two of the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite on Sunday, April 5. The men's team took first place with 153.5 points, which is 50 more points than the second-place finisher.
The only event contested today was the javelin throw, which was won by
Justin Swavely (Rome, NY/RFA) as he set a new school record throw of 63.54m. Not only is this a school record personal best throw for Swavley, that throw now gives him the conference record, facility record, and has him currently ranked fourth nationally in NCAA III.
Swavely also broke the 16-year-old conference record set by 2008 NCAA DIII Champion Stephen Burns of RIT.
Also in the javelin throw,
Tobias Jeralds (Chatham, NY/Chatham) was fifth (44.76m),
Anthony Leotta (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollows Hills West) was 11th (36.58m), and
Thomas Dunn () was 14th (33.21m). This was a personal best throw for Leotta.
The team will now travel out to Massachusetts to Westfield State University for the Jerry Gravel Classic on Saturday, April 13. A start time is yet to be determined.
