CORTLAND, NY - The Utica University men's track and field team completed day one of the AARTFC Championships at SUNY Cortland on Wednesday. The team currently sits in 15th out of 61 schools with eight points through eight of 22 events.

Two Pioneers were able to take down two school records in the afternoon. Beating his own school record was
Antwan Kelly (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) in the hammer throw. Kelly's mark of 54.52m is now an all-time best and beat his previous school record distance of 54.33m that he hit on his previous attempt. He went into the day already owning the record with a mark of 53.81m. This gave the senior a sixth place finish at the meet.Â

In the 3000m steeplechase,
Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) crossed the finish line in 9:15.03 for a new school record, clearing the previous record of 9:22.73. Melita placed fourth in the meet in the event.Â

Joined by Kelly in the hammer throw,
Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) placed 22nd with a 48.08m toss, and
Mark A. Brown Jr (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim). was 26th (45.51m).Â

The men's 4x100m quartet of
Nyles Rogers (Suffern, NY/Suffern),
Andy Hadasz (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro),
Connor Dean (Taberg, Ny/Camden) and
Ethan Kain (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) got the baton around in 42.41 to place 11th.Â

The Pioneers will complete the regional championships on Thursday with the meet beginning at 10:00 a.m.Â
