NEW ORLEANS, LA - Five members of the Utica University men's outdoor track & field team captured U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Niagara Region honors.
The top-five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-three ranked relay team.
Andy Hadasz (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) earned honors in both the 100m and 200m. Hadasz had the top 200m mark in the Niagara Region (21.36) as well as the fourth best 100m mark in the region (10.76). His 200m time at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza on May 10 set a new program record. He previously won the Empire 8 title in both events while placing third in the 200m at the AARTFC Championships last week.
All-American
Hunter Logan's (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) season best mark of 16.90m at the AARTFC Championships last week left little doubt of him claiming the top shot put mark in the region. That distance also granted him the individual AARTFC shot put title while also previously being crowned the Empire 8 champion. Logan is set to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
Kaiden McCaskill (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) finished off the regular season with the top high jump mark in the region. McCaskill was one of two athletes in the region to break 2.00m this season thanks to his 2.01m mark at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza on May 10. The sophomore claimed the Empire 8 championship in the high jump before putting together a top-15 finish at regionals.
Bennett Melita's (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) program record time of 9:15.03 at the AARTFC Championships last week solidified him with the fourth best 3000m steeplechase time in the region. He finished fourth at regionals in the event while placing as the Empire 8 runner-up in early May.
Justin Swavely's (Rome, NY/RFA) gap on the rest of the region in the javelin was historic for his 63.59m distance at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza on May 10 was a program record, an Empire 8 Conference record, and finished as the fifth best mark nationally. Swavely won each of his four meets where he competed in the javelin, including capturing the Empire 8 championship in early May. He is set to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
