CONWAY, SC -
Justin Swavely (Rome, NY/RFA) captured All-American status following his seventh place finish at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday from Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
Swavely is bringing home his first All-American honor of his career thanks to his monster performance in the javelin throw. He placed seventh with a throw of 62.64m which came on his third attempt. The seventh place finish also earned the Pioneers two points at the meet.
His mark of 62.64m is Swavely's third-best career mark, and his seventh time throwing over 60 meters.
Following his first two attempts of 51.40m and 52.67m, Swavely launched his way from 20th place all the way up to fourth place with his 62.64m hurl. He was later bumped to fifth place entering the finals.
In the finals, Swavely hit 54.27m, 58.54m, and 57.22m, respectively, while his top-mark of 62.64m was good enough to remain within the top-eight and earn him All-American status.
The Pioneers will have two shot putters compete at nationals on Friday as
Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) will throw at 1:30 p.m. and Jane Fahy at 4 p.m. Both will be looking to capture outdoor All-American status for the second time in their careers.
