UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's soccer team drew 1-1 with the SUNY Delhi Broncos on Wednesday evening.
 
Anderson Velazquez (Norwood, NY/Marble Hill) led Utica with four shots, three on-goal, and one assist. Evan Smith (Baldwinsville, NY/Barker) recorded two shots, along with Utica's lone goal. Five other players collected at least one shot.
 
Eduardo Paez (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester) started in goal for Utica, tallying four saves: one in the first half and three in the second.
 
The Pioneers dominated the offensive side of the field in the first half, pouring on six shots compared to Delhi's one. The defense held their own, not allowing many entries for the Delhi offense and keeping a clean box for Paez. Utica tallied two corner kicks, while the Broncos had zero. Just under five minutes to play, Utica struck first as Velazquez gave Smith a great feed, giving Utica an early 1-0 advantage. The Pioneers kept their foot on the gas for the rest of the first half as they went into the second with a one-goal lead.
 
Both teams showed a surge in their offensive zones in the second half. The Broncos registered their first goal 17 minutes into the second as Christain Navarro evened the match at one. Utica and Delhi traded blows throughout the half, combining for 11 shots. 90 minutes wasent enough to decide this match as it completed in a 1-1 draw.
 
Utica (1-2-3, 0-0 Empire 8) hosts Houghton University for its first Empire 8 matchup of the season on Saturday, September 21 at 3:30 p.m.
