Women's Soccer Shut Out by Fisher

ROCHESTER, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team fell on the road this evening to the St. John Fisher Cardinals by a score of 2-0.

Four different Pioneers recorded a shot in the contest. Sofia Fini (Campbell Hall, NY/Goshen), Natalia Bell (Cortland, NY/Groton), Bella Noble (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), and Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) all recorded both a shot and a shot on goal on the evening.

In goal for the Pioneers was Emily Duro (Wappinger Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) who recorded six saves in the effort.

The Pioneers would be unable to find their footing until the 20th minute when Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) would rifle one towards the Fisher goalkeep, but would be unable to find the back of the net. It would be in the 35th minute where Fisher would strike first, squeezing one past Duro to take the lead. Utica would not register another shot until the 41st minute where Natalia Bell's (Cortland, NY/Groton) efforts would come up short to send the Pioneers into the half 1-0.

The second frame would see a little more momentum in favor of the Pioneers as Sofia Fini (Campbell Hall, NY/Goshen) would rifle a shot off in the 51st minute and Bella Noble (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) would fire another one off not 30 seconds later. The momentum would be short lived as the Pioneers would be unable to find the back of the net for the rest of the frame. In the 81st minute, Fisher would be able to find the back of the net once more, doubling their lead, and closing out the game 2-0.

Utica (2-6, 0-2 Empire 8) will host the Elmira College Soaring Eagles on Saturday, September 28 at 3pm as the team honors its seniors.
