Women's Soccer Explodes for Seven Goals Against Poly

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team remains undefeated in Empire 8 Conference play after delivering a 7-0 rout of the SUNY Poly Wildcats on Wednesday evening.

Leading the way for the Pioneers was Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) who delivered an impressive three goal outing with eight shots, all of which fell on goal, in only 48 minutes of playing time. Four other Pioneers managed to find their way into the back of the net in Kayla Giovingo (Centereach, NY/Centereach), Adrianna Calabria (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), Bailey Hewson (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh), and Carly Cordts (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon). Also producing points for the Pioneers was Natalia Bell (Cortland, NY/Groton) who managed two assists on the afternoon, as well as Madison Wagner (Saukville, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels), Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham), and Samantha Ferguson (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) who each recorded an assist. 14 different Pioneers recorded at least one shot attempt, with Hewson following in Lamphere's footsteps with eight shot attempts and five falling on goal, and Wagner with five shot attempts and three falling on goal. Goalkeepers Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) and Emily Duro (Wappinger Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) combined for the shutout effort, with neither goalkeeper having to make a save.

The Pioneers would get the scoring going in the 20th minute when Lamphere would take one and put it into the back of the net off a feed from Bell for the first Pioneer goal of the afternoon. Less than nine minutes later, Lamphere would get a another on a one-touch off the foot of Bell who would receive a great feed from Wagner for her second of the game. Less than two minutes later, Giovingo would find the back of the net after Piersma would send the ball inside the box to bring the score to 3-0 in favor of the Pioneers. 30 seconds after Giovingo found the back of the net, Lamphere would net her third of the game off of a feed from Ferguson to make it 4-0 Pioneers. In the 41st minute Carly Cordts (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) would wind up from outside the box and manage to find the back of the net for the fifth Pioneer goal of the contest, sending Utica into the break with a comfortable lead.

Coming out of the halftime break, Calabria would net the sixth Pioneer goal of the contest in the 58th minute. Despite maintaining possession for the majority of the half, the Wildcat defense would become stout, attempting to not allow the Pioneers to find the back of the net once more. It would be Bailey Hewson (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) that would find the inside edge of the crossbar with seven seconds remaining on the game clock, for the Pioneers final goal of the night and a statement 7-0 victory.

Utica (6-3-2, 3-0-1 Empire 8) returns to action on Saturday, October 4 as the team travels west to take on SUNY Geneseo. Game time from Geneseo, NY is set for 2:30pm.
