Men’s Soccer Set to Complete Regular Season With Wednesday Night Home Match

UTICA, NY - Utica University's men's soccer team will conclude its regular season with a home match against Keuka College on Wednesday, October 29th. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm at Laura M. Casamento Field. The Pioneers, who officially clinched a berth last week, will begin the first round of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament on Saturday, with their location and opponent yet to be determined.

Week in Review: After two lossless weeks, the Pioneers struggled last week, falling 2-1 in both games the squad played. On Wednesday night, Utica hosted its local rival, Hamilton College, and fell in a heartbreaker. The orange and blue struck first, and the teams entered halftime tied 1-1, but a Continental's goal with 1.9 seconds left stole the draw away from the home squad. In the team's matchup with SUNY Brockport on Saturday, the Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead into halftime, and the Pioneers could only cut the lead by one goal in the second half.

Playoff Implications: Before play begins on the 29th, the Pioneers sit 5th in the E8 standings. In the eight-team tournament, the Pioneers will only be guaranteed a home game if they can climb into the #4 ranking. SUNY Geneseo has already clinched the #1 seed, followed by Brockport and Elmira, who have not locked in their final order, but the two teams will finish #2 and #3. Utica joins St. John Fisher and Nazareth in a race for the #4 seed, which will be decided on the final day of play. The Pioneers will need a win over Keuka, paired with a tie between the 4th-ranked Cardinals and 6th-ranked Golden Flyers, to secure a first-round home game.

Wolves' Watchlist: The Keuka men have struggled in the 2025 season, playing to a 1-14 overall record. Their lone victory came in early October in a 3-2 home win over Houghton University. The Wolves have been outscored 8 to 50 this year, for a -42 goal differential. Entering their matchup with Utica, Keuka has lost their last four games by scores of 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively.

Liam Davis and Brenden Moquin lead the Wolves as the only multi-goal scorers, tallying three and two. Timothy Cowin, Evan Simmons, and Jariel Ubiles have also each added one goal. Keuka has tallied three total assists over the season, with Cowin, Simmons, and Nicola Costa each recording one. The Wolves have split their goalie minutes between two players, totaling roughly 865 and 484 minutes. Logan Karn has spent the majority of the time as the keeper, recording a 3.75 GAA and .636 save percentage.

Up Next: The Pioneers will next play this weekend on Saturday, November 1st, for the first round of the E8 Championship Tournament. Prior to the 10/29 slate of games, Utica sits at the #5 seed and will need help to climb to #4 and secure a home playoff game. If Utica places as seed #5-8, the team will travel to their higher-seeded opponent.
