ONEONTA, NY - The fifth seeded Utica University women's soccer team fell in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Empire 8 Conference Women's Soccer Tournament by a score of 3-1 to the fourth seeded Hartwick College Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Lily Martin (Poland, NY/Poland) served as the lone goal scorer for the Pioneers, finding the back of the net on one of her team leading three shot attempts.
Natalia Bell (Cortland, NY/Groton) and
Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) led the Pioneers with two shot attempts apiece, while
Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville),
Krista Panko (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy), and
Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) each managed to rifle off one. In goal for the Pioneers was
Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) who registered three saves in her 90 minutes of action.
Hartwick would be the team to get the offensive pressure going early, rifling off five shots in the first 18 minutes of the contest. Utica would be able to get its first attempt of the contest off in the 21st minute off the foot of Bell. Two more Hartwick attempts would be fired off on Pcola before Hartwick would break the scoreless tie in the 43rd minute, making the score 1-0.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Pioneers would be able to gain some offensive momentum, with the first shot of the frame coming off the foot of Panko that would go out to the right of the Hartwick goalkeeper. Hartwick would register its second goal of the contest in the 58th minute. Less than 30 seconds later,
Lily Martin (Poland, NY/Poland) would be able to cut the Pioneers deficit to one, finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Utica would be able to generate some more offensive pressure rifling off five more shots, before Hartwick would be able to turn and find the back of the net for the final goal of the contest in the 85th minute. The Pioneers would be able to generate two more attempts in the final minutes of the contest, but would be unable to find the back of the net.
Utica completes its season with an 8-6-5 overall record and a 5-2-4 record in Empire 8 play.
