Women’s Hockey Offense Prevails in 8-0 Win Over Hilbert College

UTICA, NY - Utica University's women's hockey team hosted the Hilbert College Hawks in the first of two back-to-back games, winning by a score of 8-0. The Pioneers held complete control of the game, recording 81 shots on goal to Hilbert's five. Utica has now evened its record at 2-2 and begins its UCHC play 1-0. Hilbert falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the UCHC. The teams will play in Utica again tomorrow, with puck drop set for 2:00 pm.

12 different Pioneers ended the night with at least one point, with half of them tallying two or more. Kaci Ryder (Shrewsbury, MA/) led the team with four total points, a result of a two-goal, two-assist night. Maddi Vitali (Downington, PA/) followed with a three-point night from two goals and one assist. Veronica Houk (Richboro, PA) scored twice, with Utica's other two goals coming from Nora Pollestad (Stavanger, Norway/) and Samantha Dobrzynski (Garnet Valley, PA/), who each assisted on another goal. Grace Joscelyn (Loudon, NH/) was the only other player with two assists, with six other players ending with one assist. Utica played each of its three goalies for one full period. Katherine Sheahan (Oak Lawn, IL) started the game, making three of the team's five saves and being credited with the win. Alex Venning (Courtice, ON/) and Isabella Boehm (Framingham, MA/) each made one save in their 20 minutes on the ice.

The Hawks' offense was limited to just five shots in the game, with three of them in the 1st period. Victoria Battaglia took two shots in the 1st, with Kelsey Fuller taking the other in the period. Sophia Gannon took the only shot in the 2nd, followed by Jacqueline Alaburda's shot in the 3rd. Brook Thompson started in net for Hilbert, making 49 saves and allowing seven goals across her 41:47 time in the game. Jewely Monford took over the final 18:13, saving 24 of the 25 shots she faced.

The teams are set to faceoff again tomorrow, November 15th. Utica will again host the game at the Utica University Nexus Center, with puck drop scheduled for 2:00 pm. The Pioneers will celebrate their senior day at the start of the contest.
