Women’s Hockey Falls In High-Scoring Matchup Against #14 Hamilton

CLINTON, NY - Utica University's women's hockey team took a short trip to face off with the #14-ranked Hamilton College Continentals. The hosts had two separate three-goal runs, completing a 6-3 victory on their home ice. Hamilton's victory drops the Pioneers' overall record to 3-5-0. The team will return to action on Friday night when #4-ranked Middlebury College visits Utica in a 6:00 pm matchup.

The Pioneers had eight different point scorers in the contest, with only one multi-point scorer. Madison Richman (Scituate, MA/) scored early in the 2nd period, followed by late 3rd period goals by Samantha Dobrzynski (Garnet Valley, PA/) and Kendall Best (Troy, MI/). Kaci Ryder (Shrewsbury, MA/) tallied two assists, with Maya Jerome (Belleville, MI/), Tess Barrett (Tewksbury, MA/St. Mark's), Angelina Garganese (Winter Springs, FL), and Nora Pollestad (Stavanger, Norway/) each recording one. Katherine Sheahan (Oak Lawn, IL) started between the pipes for the orange and blue, saving eight of the 11 shots she faced in the 1st period. Alex Venning (Courtice, ON/) took over to start the 2nd period, saving 11 of the 14 shots on target in the remainder of the game.

Hamilton got many of their players involved, as 13 Continentals finished with at least one point. Four of them recorded two points, led by Lila Snow, the only multi-goal scorer. Bri Rockwood and Ava Romano each scored and assisted on a goal, with Gabby Martiniello assisting twice. Grace Long and Jamie Porter each netted one of the remaining Hamilton scores. Evie Sheridan manned the crease for the home squad, making 26 saves.

The Continentals took control of the game in the 1st period, scoring three goals. Romano opened the scoring nine minutes into the game, with goals just seconds before the 17 and 19 minute marks extending their lead. Richman scored for Utica just under two minutes into the second period, but Hamilton responded with two goals in the 2nd to enter the final frame up 5-1. Porter scored the Continentals' final tally 4:24 into the 3rd period. Dobrzynski and Best tightened the final score line with goals at the 13:19 and 16:00 marks.

The Pioneers return to home ice in just a few nights when #4-ranked Middlebury College comes to town on Friday, December 5th. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 pm. This game will be the final before a month-long break, which will end with the Utica University Kick Off Tournament on January 3rd and 4th.
