ROCHESTER, NY - The Utica University men's indoor track & field team strung together quality performances on day 1 of the DIII Elite Meet hosted by Nazareth University.
The Distance Medley team of
Anthony Leotta (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollows Hills West),
Tristan Vargo (East Aurora, NY/Orchard Park),
Eddy Corporan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham) and
Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) ran an incredible 10:27.89, placing second overall and qualifying for the AARTFC.
Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) continues to put together great performances in the circle. He registered a 16.95m weight throw and placed third overall while also improving his number two all-time standing in the event.
The 4x400m relay of
Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central),
Evan Smith (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker),
Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel) and
Tanner Warren (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) took second overall with a 3:22.63.
Star newcomer Urgent placed third overall in the long jump with a 6.91m leap. His mark falls just short of his 6.94m personal record from last weekend at the Blue and Orange Invitational.
Zachary Brown (Milford, NY/Milford Central) picked up a personal record in the 5000m, running the race in 16:05.36 and placing 16th overall.
Multiple runners received personal records in round 1 of the 60m hurdle:
Cade Tavares (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) (8.89),
Tyshawn Taylor (Syracuse, NY/Institute of Technology) (8.95) and
Harley Hugunine (Oneida, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) (9.31).
